What is Landscape Architecture. Heather Ring, Wayward Plants

Jan 2011. Heather has had an illustrious Landscape background, studying under James Corner (of New York’s Highline) and Marsha Schwartz to Gustafson Porter, before setting up her own practice. Heather asked the question, ‘What is a garden and how long does a garden need to exist before being a garden? Heather used to walk to work and on the way would often see discarded plants, which she would adopt and take home. After some time she started to bring people together from the community to exchange and adopt each other’s plants. She helped set up the Union Street Urban Orchard at Bankside, made from recycled products, such as ping pong skips. It took 6 weeks to build and lasted 3 months. Heather felt Landscape is all about interaction and good economic / social use of resources, to experiment opportunities.
