St Johns Recreation Ground, Tunbridge Wells, Kent

Jan 2011. I was able to see a small redesigned recreation park, St John’s, in Tunbridge Wells Kent. It was opened in 1900, to provide green space with trees and flowers for local residents, as parks in other parts of Tunbridge Wells were proving to be beneficial to the communities. The only remaining trees being a Yew and an Oak. Much of it was dug up to grow potatoes during the First World war and all of its iron fences and gates were removed to aid war efforts in the Second World war. I noticed some well planted semi mature trees, but was concerned that the contractors did not re-stake the existing ones, as the ties are now too tight and the trees are rubbing against the supports.
