June 2010. The Kingston school of architecture degree show saw the Landscape Architects having to make do with converting the canteen into a gallery, with improvements such as a tropical beach styled bar. Very cleverly, they had placed suspended words around the landscape outside the building. These were simple words, highlighting observations.
July 2009. Showcasing students current work, but not so well presented. Very clever wooden sculpture in Bedford Square.
June 2009. Greenwich was an option for me and I was very interested to see what they would be exhibiting. One thing I admire about Greenwich is there very strong link to Hadlow College in Kent for Landscape Students to learn about horticulture. If anything, I think it is a real mistake that Kingston do not follow Greenwich and get students to spend time at their sister horticultural college Merrist Wood in Guildford.
It is always important to see new design concepts in practice and Wimbledon covers a great spectrum, from theatre design to painting and sculpture.
June 2009. The whole College was presenting, but I specifically went for the Garden Design work. Very similar techniques of presentation to us, but with sketch books, models and all sorts on show, to make you understand where the students concept.
The Landscape show was in Room 60, and decorated to look like a building site in motion. Due to the fact that it was moving after the summer to the first floor. However, it just looked like a very messy studio and table were cramped. I think the presentation of the work suffered as a result of this. On the other hand, the Architectural show in the other rooms (yes, many more rooms than us) was very professional. They had even gone to the extent of redesigning the tables. Many of their students paid to have coffee table style books made up of their final work. Some of the models were equally outstanding.
