March 2011. Wandle Trust river clean up. I spent the day in a pair of waders standing in the water with an enthusiastic group of volunteers dragging rubbish out of the river. Erica Evans put the day together, not only supplying all the gear and equipment, but also fantastic cakes, biscuits and tea. The water was not as cold as I thought it would be, but the current was certainly stronger than expected. Some of the items extracted from the water included, mattresses, carpets, bicycles, shopping trolleys, stereos (old fashioned iPods!), suitcases and washing machines.
