November 2010. Michael Hermann arranged a charette between the Landscape Architecture Students and Garden design students from our affiliated Merrist Wood, Guildford. It was titled Sustainable Design Solutions. We spent the day looking at ways we could improve things at Kingston and our group focused on improving students work spaces. We looked at designing for individuals, small groups and classes. Our final concept was based on bee hives and the hexagon structures within. These work very well, or can be combined by interlinking them and removing the adjoining panels. To make use of free campus space, we designed them to hang down the side of buildings where there are solid walls. Access would then be cut through the walls.
