December 2010. Richmond Park has some of the finest examples of ancient oaks in the country, some estimated at 1000 years old and it is one of London’s unknown places to the majority. The 1000 hectares was completely walled in by Charles I in 1637 and fenced in and herds of deer roam freely, as do a few thousand green parakeets.
