March 2009. On the way back to London, we were able to have another look at Manchester's' regeneration. We got off the bus in the rough part of town (the Shameless setting) and walked up the road passed the Chips building in New Islington, a joint development by the likes of British Land and Urban Splash. Then it was on to the 8 hectares Ancoats regeneration area, where we were able to meet some guys from Camlin Lonsdale, who told us about the public square they had designed. The ground is lit by motion senor controlled lights and the Dan Dubowitz sculpture blocks have copper mixed into the concrete, and etched glass panels.
