London Walk Through The City

February 2009. Have you ever tried to find the front door to the Barbican, within its concrete forest? If not, it is worth a try. The exterior is so harsh, but once you get inside the compound it is a unique setting. We met here for one of our walks through London with Ed & Simon on another cold but bright day. After waiting for an hour for people to roll up, we Had a look at the interior and then set off passed the remains of London Wall and on towards St Paul's. Through Paternoster Square, which is based on an elegant Italian Piazza. Via the Carter Lane refurbishment for Townshend landscapes design and on to Sir Christopher Wrens' Monument. It is really worth going up the 311 steps to the top, as the views are fantastic. Then towards the Gherkin, during city lunch time, passed Richard Rogers Lloyd's building. We then went through Skidmore Owings square at Broadgate, but as it was during the day, we were unable to see the full lighting effect. Then it was off to see the animals at City Farm, passing through the Georgian area around Brick Lane and through Old Spitalfields Market. Whilst in the area we had to go through Hoxton Square, but the White Cube gallery was shut, so we called it a day soon after at Old Street Tube.
